Holistic Childbirth (Kate Dimpfl)

Holistic Childbirth offers doula services, childbirth education classes, and perinatal counseling to help parents with the transition into parenthood. The goal is to holistically support and empower women and families during every stage of this unique period. To do this, classes are designed to address the physical, emotional and logistical aspects of birth and parenting.

Rather than teach one type of childbirth education, Holistic Childbirth classes are evidence-based, non-judgmental and teach the range of options that are available to parents, helping them discover what their beliefs and preferences are as they sort through the myriad of choices they face.   Counseling examines the emotional components of the transition into parenthood, allowing mothers to process their own sexual and relationship histories, helping them feel confident and capable to not only birth their babies, but make the best choices for themselves, and take ownership and pride in their new role as mothers.

As a doula Kate often combines education and counseling, in addition to attending births.  Kate says, "It is an honor to work with families during this special transition."  For more information go to: www.holisticchildbirth.org.

Help us help our community through the Alternatives Venture Fund

Jacqueline Reeves

My journey began by inquiring about how to purchase a home with my Section 8 counselor at Tompkins Community Action. From there, I was connected with the Family Self Sufficiency program, which made this experience wonderful and easier to understand.

The Homebuyer's Class at Ithaca Neighborhood Housing was an eye opener to all the possibilities and obstacles that I had to complete in order to achieve my goal. All this snowballed into me connecting with Alternatives. Brendan Wilbur and the staff there were helpful in setting up an IDA, a program where I can pay the bills needed to maintain a household and still be able to save. These are both things that I love to do.

The IDA program provides people with information on the steps to homeownership. It's been a great experience for me, and I hope that young people are inspired to follow up on their dreams - if not for themselves - then for the generation that we have the responsibility to raise.
