What is EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit)?
EITC is a tax credit for people who worked in 2011 but who had modest earnings.
EITC can reduce or eliminate your income taxes and could earn you a tax refund...as much as $7,000! Even if you made very little money, it may be worth your while to file.
Who qualifies for EITC?
You must have worked full- or part-time in 2011.
If you are unmarried, you must have income less than:
$13,660 for childless workers between the ages of 25 and 65
$36,052 for workers with one qualifying child
$40,964 for workers with two or more qualifying children
$43,998 for workers with three or more qualifying children
If you are married, you must have income less than:
$18,740 for childless workers between the ages of 25 and 65
$41,132 for workers with one qualifying child
$46,044 for workers with two or more qualifying children
$49,078 for workers with three or more qualifying children
What is the maximum credit?
$5,751 with three or more qualifying children + NYS EITC funds
$5,112 with two qualifying children + NYS EITC funds
$3,094 with one qualifying child + NYS EITC funds
$464 with no qualifying children + NYS EITC funds
