Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

What is EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit)?

EITC is a tax credit for people who worked in 2011 but who had modest earnings.

EITC can reduce or eliminate your income taxes and could earn you a tax refund...as much as $7,000! Even if you made very little money, it may be worth your while to file.

Who qualifies for EITC?

You must have worked full- or part-time in 2011.

If you are unmarried, you must have income less than:

  • $13,660 for childless workers between the ages of 25 and 65
  • $36,052 for workers with one qualifying child
  • $40,964 for workers with two or more qualifying children
  • $43,998 for workers with three or more qualifying children
  •

If you are married, you must have income less than:

  • $18,740 for childless workers between the ages of 25 and 65
  • $41,132 for workers with one qualifying child
  • $46,044 for workers with two or more qualifying children
  • $49,078 for workers with three or more qualifying children
  •

    What is the maximum credit?

  • $5,751 with three or more qualifying children + NYS EITC funds
  • $5,112 with two qualifying children + NYS EITC funds
  • $3,094 with one qualifying child + NYS EITC funds
  • $464 with no qualifying children + NYS EITC funds
  •

Help us help our community through the Alternatives Venture Fund

    Claire N.

It is very satisfying to have a way to put in writing how well I have been treated at Alternatives Federal Credit Union since I first moved to Ithaca over 20 years ago. It is not just the philosophy and community mindedness that impresses me, but that no matter what questions I have, if the employee does not know the answer at that time, that person finds someone who does, so that I am reassured when the conversation is over.

In this busy, over-stressed society, I am glad that I have a financial institution that makes intentional choices to work with the individual with resolutions that effect the individual's well-being, as well as the whole community and beyond.
